Elliot believes that the first record he ever bought, "Sugar Sugar” by The Archies, was probably his subliminal inspiration for this track, as that song contains the very similar lyric “pour a little sugar on it, baby”.Įlliot was also inspired by the recent success of Run DMC’s groundbreaking collaboration with Aerosmith on “Walk This Way”. The first is that Joe Elliot asked Mutt Lange if he wanted one lump or two in his tea, to which Lange responded, “I don’t care, just pour some sugar on me.” The other is producer Mutt Lange overheard Elliot “playing around on the acoustic guitar singing ‘pour some sugar on me'”, and he insisted the song be fleshed out. There are two stories as to how the lyric came about. ![]() “Pour Some Sugar On Me” was thrown together in the last ten days of recording sessions for Hysteria.
